Crystal I. Love is a native New Yorker, born to Iris Smith and George Matthews. Crystal was raised by grandparents, Samuel and Lucia Cain, in Corona Queens, an area that reflects the rich and diverse cultural makeup that defines her heritage. Crystal spend much of her early life steeped in Hispanic traditions, defined by her Puerto Rican grandmother and Honduran grandfather, and gained a greater appreciation and understanding of her African American when she moved to Atlanta GA and attended Morris Brown College. Crystal began her walk with the Lord in 1997 when she became born again at Love Oasis Christian Center in Hempstead Long Island under Pastors Victor and Laura Lowery. While at LOCC, she served in various ministries that included, Children’s Church, Street Evangelism, the Prison Outreach Ministry, Liturgical Dance, the Usher Board, the Choir and worked closely with the pastoral leadership team in community outreach projects. She is joined in her faith by her husband of 20 years, Damon, and their beloved daughter, Bianca. After moving from Manhattan to Queens three years ago, they were looking for a new church home when they had met Pastor Ruby as a guest minister at a nearby church in their Forest Hills neighborhood. They were so moved by the Power of God in the service, that they were led to visit Safe Haven United Church of Christ the following Sunday. After several months of prayer as a family, the three of them were led to join Safe Haven in January of 2016 where they have been welcomed as family and have returned that love in kind. Having spent most of her professional career in corporate America, Crystal has answered the call on her life to join the ministry and is currently on the path to the pursuit of her Masters of Divinity at the New York Theological Seminary.
